We extend our heartfelt sympathy to

Norm Sanders in the death of his wife,

Elaine.

Elaine was a very enthusiastic member of our club, one who was always among the first to volunteer to help. Her bright smile and cheerful demeanor will be greatly missed.

Norm Sanders thanked everyone for their love and support in the loss of his wife.  Norm, you will continue in our prayers.

Distributing our newsletter via e-mail is the most efficient way to get it to you. Please check to see that we have the most current one on file for you, and if you have made a change, please let

Fran Black and/or Chuck Young know. They will pass these along to publisher Bob Naas.

Megan Niehaus got married on May 29 and is now Megan Durbin. She is not able to attend many meetings, but is the Builders Club sponsor in Henderson. Best wishes!!

Next board meeting—7:00 am at Arby’s on Green River Road, July 9

IF YOU SIGNED UP TO HELP WITH FEED MY STARVING CHILDREN, YOU ARE ASKED TO ARRIVE 30 MINUTES EARLY FOR TRAINING.

Jack Arney reminded us of the Feed My

Starving Children project sponsored by Crossroads, July 7-10. Its purpose is to provide ½ million meals for Haitian children. The GRK board approved GRK participation on Saturday, July 10. We’ll l have 2 units of 20 people each work for 2 hours that day – and yes, points will be awarded (5 points for 2-hr shift).

Anyone who cannot work that day or prefers another time can sign up individually for other days –sign up online at www.cccregistration.com. Jack has been signing up the 40 people who volunteer for the Saturday shifts. EVERYONE MUST REGISTER IN ADVANCE. The 9:00 shift on Saturday is full, but volunteers are still needed for the 2:00 shift that day. Jack is leaving for his Kenya mission trip very soon, so call the

church if you cannot reach him.

GRK will once again staff a gate at the Vanderburgh County 4H Fair—our day/time is July 28, from 3-9. Rob Kerney will be in charge of the volunteers.

Sylvia Devault says that it’s already time to think about the Back to School party for Central UMC’s Power Group. The date will be July 27, from 4-6 pm at Central UMC. The shopping date will be the day before, July 26, at the Greatland Target on Burkhardt, at 5:30 (meet at

the entrance nearest to Dick’s Sporting Goods).  Sylvia already has the backpacks. The Lady Aces will be in attendance to help with the games. For new GRKiwanians, Central United Methodist Church is located at 300 Mary St., near Deaconess Hospital, a somewhat economically challenged neighborhood. The Power Group

provides tutoring and other activities for area kids. GRK helps by providing back to school supplies and also has a Santa breakfast, complete with personally selected, wrapped gifts. Shopping for schools supplies is a VERY quick and efficient experience—supplies are purchased and distributed in the

individual backpacks in usually about an hour.

Thought of the week, courtesy of Don Parke:

Lord, so far today I’ve not been

grumpy, selfish, greedy, envious, proud, or angry. I’m really pleased about that. But in a few minutes now, I’m going to get up, and from then on I’ll probably need a lot more help.
